Restaurant VAT billing in Nepal: what to keep

VAT is not a report you add at the end. It is a habit at the counter.

Blog · 21 Oct 2026

What the counter has to capture

  • What was sold, and at what price.
  • The tax treatment of each line.
  • How it was paid: cash, wallet, QR or card.
  • The date, and which outlet rang it up.

Purchases matter too

Input credit depends on purchase records, not only sales. Keep supplier bills in the same system so the two registers can be reconciled.

Register, then file

Dhuri Commerce keeps sales and purchase registers and exports them for VAT filing. Filing itself stays with your accountant or the IRD process you already use. The software is not a filing portal, and this article is not tax advice.

Why restaurants are different

A restaurant's day is split across dine-in, takeaway and delivery, and a bill can change before it is settled. The register should follow the settled bill, not the first print.

What to ask any till

  • Can I export sales and purchase registers without calling support?
  • Does an edited bill produce one settled register line, not two?
  • Can I tell which outlet and which payment method a sale used?

Dhuri Commerce is available. The product page lists what is built and what is still being built.
